Active Armchairs and Sensory session at Lulworth House Residential Care Home

During the first week of September, our ladies and gents at Lulworth House Residential Care Home have been very active – and also very relaxed!

We’ve had a brilliant ‘Active Armchairs’ and ‘Music for Health’ sessions, where our residents joined in with easy-to-follow seated exercises to music, using props such as scarves and ribbons to gently work their arms and upper body.

There are many benefits of seated movement including:

– Improved circulation and joint movement
– Boosted immune system
– Improved general health and wellbeing
– Stress reduction
– A greater awareness of movement

We all enjoyed the seated exercise class as it was great fun and a super way for our residents to keep fit and happy.

Last week we also transformed our lounge into an amazing Sensory room for a group sensory and relaxation session. Our residents loved experiencing the mix of light tubes and fibre optic strands, and bubbles of course!

These sessions help stimulate senses, ease anxiety and aid relaxation. They are wonderful for bringing joy to residents affected by Dementia, frequently evoking positive feelings and increasing their social interaction.

We look forward to more seated exercise and sensory sessions soon.
