Delicious harvest festival celebrations at Lulworth House Residential Care Home

Last week at Lulworth House Residential Care Home we enjoyed celebrating harvest festival together, with a week of baking and seasonal activities for our residents to enjoy.

On Tuesday we went on an interesting trip out to Maidstone Market in search of some nice quality fruit and vegetables. There were lots to choose from! We also stopped in town for a delicious pub lunch (generous helpings!) and a little look around the shops, which our residents always love.

On Wednesday morning, we prepared the strawberries and plums we had bought to make jams. It was a very sociable activity and it was super to use such fresh fruits.

On Thursday we sampled our jam for breakfast (which got a big thumbs up!) and then continued our cooking skills by making tomato soup and bread together. Our huge tomatoes were amazing and the soup we created turned out very well and tasted wonderful for supper.

Apple crumble was on the baking agenda for Friday morning, so we got busy peeling our apples and making the crumble mix. We were also delighted to welcome a group of volunteers, who came to sing harvest hymns for us, which was lovely.

Our week’s harvest activities also included a special seasonal quiz, a lovely autumnal painting session with some of our ladies and a harvest festival singing party, to get everyone in the seasonal spirit!

Not forgetting our beloved Guinea pigs in all the celebrations – they enjoyed some succulent sweetcorn during the week which we bought specially for them at the market!
