Our Lulworth House Residential Care Home residents enjoyed a week full of VE Day celebrations last week – making poppies for our display with St Francis School children, enjoying themed word searches, a ‘finish the lyric’ quiz featuring wartime classics, and an afternoon tea party on Thursday 8 May.
At our scrumptious afternoon tea party, our ladies and gents enjoyed a selection of sweet treats including frangipane and jam tarts, fruit scones with jam, cream and strawberries, and other tempting treats. They could choose to celebrate with a glass of wine, a selection of fruit juices, or in true British style with a cup of Rosie Lee!
Everyone enjoyed posing with Union Jack waistcoats and hats, and waved their flags to the music. Team member Katja and Cheryl wore their VE Day t-shirts and ‘VE 80’ hair clips to celebrate the special 80th anniversary of this very important date.
A highlight of our celebrations was welcoming singer Alex to our Home on Friday. He performed a selection of wartime tunes and some 50s songs to get our residents up and dancing.
What a wonderful week of themed celebrations and wonderful memories.
