Lulworth House Residential Care Home residents enjoy St Patrick’s Day celebrations

At Lulworth House Residential Care Home we love a good celebration, so we were excited when St Patrick’s Day arrived!

We hung St Patrick decorations in our lounge areas and kicked off the celebrations with a presentation on the history of this day. Our residents were fascinated with the facts about the man Maewyn Succat who changed his name to Patrick and became the Patron Saint of Ireland. Kidnapped at the age of 16, he was taken to Ireland to become a shepherd, which raised a few eyebrows amongst our residents! They were very impressed that St Patrick introduced Christianity not only to England, but also around the world.

Our activities continued with some lively music, including an excellent Irish singer. Lulworth House was truly rocking with dancing, swaying, singing and laughter to some favourite Irish melodies, jigs and old time favourites. We also had some exercise fun with the green balloons and the St Patricks day props we used created a lot of laughs! It was a really touching occasion, especially when our Lulworth family joined hands in unity with family and friends.

Later in the day our residents enjoyed some suitably green cupcakes, with a very welcomed Irish coffee.

The event provided a really uplifting day to cherish. It was also a wonderful memory and ‘thank you’ send off for our lovely staff member Maria, as she moved on to pastures new with our finale song of ‘for she’s a jolly good fellow!’.
