Last weekend at Lulworth House Residential Care Home, some of our residents took part in The Big Garden Birdwatch.
What is the Big Garden Birdwatch?
Each year, The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) hosts The Big Garden Birdwatch, the UK’s largest garden-based citizen project, asking individuals to record the birds that they see in their outdoor space for one hour. 2023 marks the 44th Big Garden Birdwatch.
We had an old school style camera to take photos of our findings. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to spot too many birds, despite our efforts of trying to entice them down to the bird feeder with extra foods, including some dry cornflakes! Our garden remained fairly quiet during the hour, but we were pleased to be involved.
Some of our residents are very keen gardeners and have a great interest in different birds, so we enjoyed lots of discussions about each of the birds on our information sheet and everyone shared the facts they knew about them.
