Lulworth House Residential Care Home residents share Pet Therapy and reminiscence activities

Pet Therapy visit

Our residents at Lulworth House Residential Care Home were delighted last week to spend time with our wonderful Therapy Dogs, Stitch, accompanied by her owner Jamie, and Pendall, with her owner Dave. Both visits were thoroughly enjoyed, with plenty of gentle cuddles and conversation shared throughout the sessions – our residents adore the pups!

Pet Therapy offers many lovely benefits, including helping to reduce feelings of anxiety, encouraging relaxation and supporting emotional well-being. For many residents, spending time with the dogs also prompts happy memories of pets they have owned in the past, sparking conversations and providing a comforting sense of companionship.

Looking back in time

We also enjoyed a meaningful reminiscence session using a library reminiscence box, which contained photographs, postcards and books focused on life on a hop farm in the 1950s. Our residents spent time looking through the items together, inspired by images from the past.

Shared reminiscence activities like this strengthen connections between our residents, as they enjoy reflecting on their own life experiences and listening to the stories of others.

Nutella treats

For World Nutella Day our residents made a tasty treat by rolling out bread to flatten, cutting the crusts off and spreading Nutella on top. They then created a Swiss roll shape and popped it on a skewer in between two strawberries. Yum! They got to enjoy their creations along with a chocolate coated strawberry with the ingredients that were left over. A truly delicious celebration!
